Hi, I’m Louis St-Amour, a 3rd-year undergrad at York, in the 2nd year of the Digital Media BA program. (Photo right)
Over the summer, I worked on an iPhone app for Admissions at York. The video on the left is an early preview, highlighting its then focus on Future Students, including functionality to read the YU Blog, register for tours and see photos of the campus.
I’m writing to you now because I’d like to continue to work on the iPhone app and any other mobile or innovative projects part-time. Right now, there’s definite demand for mobile websites and iPhone apps -- the Library, for instance, has 25 votes for make a mobile version of the site with suggestions for iPhone and BlackBerry support. I would add to that list Android also, which is easy enough to do as both Android and BlackBerry use Java and could share some parsing libraries and design patterns.
Besides working for Admissions over the summer, I worked in the Spring on an as-yet-unpublished Community Arts Practice website for FACS. Before that I worked as part-time Faculty of Arts Courier (under Judy Collins-Currell) and worked on Arts websites for faculty and departments, including a Flash-based Arts faculty map and directory. I’ve also served on the Board of Directors (and as President) of Harry Sherman Crowe Housing Co-operative, a multi-million dollar organization. Currently, I’m working 8 hours/week as a Digital Media Lab monitor (Work/Study). I’m the Student Rep. on the YUL Web Committee, whose first meeting this school year was yesterday (and I’m excited about what I’ve heard so far). This year, I’ve started the Podcast Club for encouraging and developing podcasts at York, and I’ve volunteered for CHRY 105.5 FM.
If you or anyone else would like to see the app in person, please let me know: (647) 801-LSTA (5782) or LSTA at yorku dot ca.
More detailed plans/info, references, or résumé available on request. If it were possible, I’d officially volunteer to work on this — I love being able to help fellow students and staff through code I can write.
